The KV varsity boys soccer team ended the regular season on a high note on Saturday morning. KV led wire-to-wire and were dominate in a 8-0 shutout victory over host Washington Township. The Kougars were led by senior Landon Palfi who had five goals in the contest. To begin the game, the Kougars wasted no time getting on the scoreboard. At the 1:30 mark, freshman Bryce Moore knotted home his sixth goal of the season off an assist from fellow freshman Landyn Smedley. Eight minutes later, the senior to senior connection created the second goal. Senior Liam Ooms netted his first goal of the season with a shot to the upper left corner off a pass from senior Landon Palfi. With eight minutes left, a nifty short pass from freshman Sebastian Nuss across the six yard box found a wide open Landon Palfi who tallied his first goal of the game. Palfi finished out the scoring in the half with less than a minute left off a long pass from sophomore Jorge Pena to give KV the 4-0 halftime lead. Similar to the first half, KV came out strong offensively to begin the second. Landon Palfi earned his second hat trick of the season from a pass from sophomore Creed Veach. His bent right-footed shot to the far right side of the goal was able to beat the Senator goalkeeper at the 2:30 mark. Less than three minutes later, a long cross into the Senator penalty box from sophomore William Nava Contreras bounced over a Washington Township defender. The ball was shot off the bounce to the lower left corner by Landon Palfi for his fouth goal of the game. Palfi earned his fifth and final goal of the game with a beautiful one-timed volley out of the air off a high-arching cross from Bryce Moore. The last goal of the game came from a long pass into the Senator defensive third from William Nava Contreras. His pass found a streaking Sebastian Nuss, who chased down the ball, and put home his left footed shot after beating the last Senator defender and goalkeeper who had challenged the ball. Nuss' goal was his first of his high school career. The KV defense earned its sixth shutout of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Damien Vargas finished with two saves in the game. "Today was a great offensive showing for our team," said head KV coach Jovan Jeftich. "We were able to play our entire roster, which doesn't happen all the time in varsity matches. It was great to see Liam and Sebastian score their first goals of the season. I was also pleased with how we shared the ball and were able to come out of the game injury free heading into next week. We have not allowed a goal in our last four games and are playing our best soccer of the season." The Kougars will now begin postseason play next week Tuesday. KV is the host site for Sectional 2 in Class 3A. They will take on the Hobart Brickies on Tuesday beginning at 5 p.m. The game will be live streamed on the Regional Radio Sports Network (RRSN).
