@ KVHS; Girls' Track and Field: the Lady Kougars won their 7th straight sectional title , tying a school-record, Tuesday night in a hard fought contest, scoring 132 points in the 14 team field. Kouts, Morgan Twp, and DMC all had outstanding team efforts, while there were several fine performances from many other schools. KV showed its strong overall depth, placing two athletes in many events, and scoring in each one. They ended up with 14 total regional qualifications. Advancing automatically to regional, top 3 per event, were: Krista Sytsma- a sensational triple winner in the 1600, 5:05.69-MEET RECORD; 800 in 2:17.51, and the 3200 in 11:40.37, this triple is the rarest of speed and endurance achievements for the junior superstar. Haylee Hass claimed yet another pole vault title with her clutch jump of 10-6, as KV began to pull away in the team race. Jackie Vander Woude had a bomb of a PR in the shot put at 36-0, to the delight of the crowd, to take 2nd, with Liv Adams right behind in 3rd with a 32-10 to also get out to regional, and seal the team title for their squad under the lights, scoring 14 gigantic points in shot put. Jenna Walker, SB of 5:18.85 in the 1600, and Sophie Singleton , an excellent long jump PR of 17-2.5, took very important seconds, with Sytsma and Walker going 1-2 in the 1600, scoring 18 huge points to gain momentum in the team race. Elyce Gillette was a huge 3rd in the 200 in 27.49, way above her projected seed, and joined Avery Myers, Singleton and Gabbi Diener to take 2nd in the 4x100 relay, in an excellent time of 51.50. The 4x800 had a great race as well, placing 3rd to advance in 10:34.28 for 6 important points: that quartet was Faith Terborg, Reese Van Meter, Ainsley Summers and the versatile G. Diener. High jumper Leah Hanselman returns to regional in her specialty, taking 3rd at 4-10. UPDATE: receiving regional call-backs are Jas Robledo in the pole vault, 6th at 8-6 , and the 4x4 team of Walker, R. Van Meter, G. Diener, ( giving Diener regional qualifications in all three relays, a very rare feat), and Gillette, 4th in a very good time of 4:18.99. Other important placings were: 100: Myers-4th in 13.26, Gillette-5th in 13.42, placing way above projected seeds for the sprint duo. 200: Myers-another important 5th place here in 27.69. 400: G.
